2019 USEF Dressage Tests Review
INTRO AND TRAINING LEVEL
The new 2019 -2021 USEF Intro through Fourth Level Dressage Tests effective December 1, 2018 are available at https://www.usdf.org/downloads/forms/2019.asp
I know all competitors have been waiting anxiously for the new tests. Those of you traveling to Florida soon will be showing these tests starting December 1 of this year.
This blog is going to review the differences in the Intro and Training Level Tests.
Well, GOOD NEWS! All the Intro tests are unchanged!
And…..Training Level Tests 1 and 2 sequence of movements are staying the same! The Collective Marks at all levels are also remaining the same and in the first and third test of each level the rider still tracks left; second test of each level the rider still tracks right.
But now there are six coefficient movements in Training One and Two.
In Training 1, now the canter to trot transitions are times 2 as is the medium walk in addition to the trot circles and the Free Walk. The directives (what the judge will be looking for) for movements 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, and 12 have the phrase added “bend and balance in corner.”
In Training 2, now the trot changes of rein and the canter departs plus medium walk are coefficient movements in addition to the free walk. The canter circles are no longer times 2. The directives for movements 3, 4, 10, 12 also have the phrase added “bend and balance in corner.”
Where the big changes begin are in Training Three.
The shallow loops have been replaced with two three loop serpentine the width of the arena at A starting right and at C starting left. Both serpentines are coefficient movements. The directives for the serpentines are:” Regularity and quality of the trot. Supple changes of bend on centerline, geometry, balance.”
The working canter right, is now in front of the judge between C and M. The working canter left is between A and F. One addition of language in the directives again is “bend and balance in corner.”
There are still 20 meter canter circles but right is at B and left at E.
More good news is that the trot transitions from canter are now at A and C. Young horses and green riders now do not have to stay in canter (and pray the horses don’t break gait) and come across the diagonal with a trot at X. But the trot transitions from canter are now also coefficient movements. And again in the directives there is addition of “bend and balance in corner.” It is very important for competitors to realize that the judges are also judging how the riders use the corners!
The stretch circle is now at E and from the left. It still has a coefficient of 2.
The medium walk, now from K-E is also a coefficient movement. The Free Walk has been shortened from E-M and retains its times 2.
Now Training 3 has seven coefficient movements compared to two in the previous test.
So big changes to Training Level Test 3.
See a copies of the three Training Level tests below.
Until Next Time,
