What have been you aha moments in training?
With ever horse I have sat on they all give different aha moments. Depending on what we are working on, but the biggest thing is that everything gets easier when your horse reacts to your leg. When you put your leg on and they go forward. Once they are in front of your leg everything is so within reach and the work is much easier to both horse and rider.
What is the most difficult thing and riding dressage?
Being consistent and not letting outside factors influence your consistency. Leaving the bad day at the office, the list of stuff that has to get done or the places you need to be, it all has to stop encroaching on your ride.
Which trainer(s) have you worked who have made the most differences to you and your horse(s)?
We are fortunate on the East coast Region 1/8 that there are so many brilliant trainers to choose from. I work with Heather Mason and have been fortunate to work with clinicians over the years Lars Petersen, Diane Creech, Christoph Hess, And Axel Steiner. Plus starting to take part in the L Program with instructors like Lisa Schmidt Marilyn Heath, Lois Yukins, Joan Darnell, Kathy Rowe’s and Debbie Riehl-Rodriguez to name just a few and there are more.
Your Other Interests?
Love traveling when I get the chance, history and the beach, my home away from home is Jamaica.
Do you own other pets?
I have a dachund/jack russell mix. He is 22lbs of fury and I love his enthusiasm. He has been my sidekick at many horse show.
What advice can you give other amateurs based on your experiences?
Don’t worry about anybody else. Everyone has their own journey to travel and everyone is at a different spot on their journey. Share the joy in not only your accomplishments but those around you no matter how large or small.
